Board Candidate 2019

What's your name? Mita Banerjee

Why is the Co-op important to you? It encompasses a community of members who strive to bring fresh, local and sustainable food to our neighborhood. Also, it is important to me that it is owned and operated by the members, and I would like to contribute to make it a cozy neighborhood shop where neighbors can get environmentally health-conscious products at an affordable price.

When did you join, and (if applicable), how have you been involved? I joined the Co-op in December 2017, and recently bought a house in South Philly. It is just a few blocks from the Co-op! I make a point of going to as many events as possible, with an eye toward building relationships there and sharing the mission of the Co-op. I have offered my home as a stop for the last food crawl, and I look forward to escalating my role to the next level.

How will your experience, skills, or unique perspectives strengthen the Co-op board? I am an organizer by nature, enthusiastic and rooted in the community. I am a “doer” and never give up given my analytic software Quality Assurance background. As a mom of two grown-up girls, I have always liked to be involved with their activities. I participated for two years in a cooperative nursery school run by moms. In addition, I was a Girl Scout leader for both of their troops when they were in elementary school. Outside of being a mom, I love bringing neighbors together by hosting block parties. With all this in mind, I want to sustainably contribute to the evolving community of the Co-op.
