As a proud South Philly resident and newly elected board member, I am so excited to help get our community-owned grocery store up and running. I see so many opportunities for our Co-op to play a role in providing healthy, accessible food for me and my neighbors in what feels like a food desert. What's more, as a community-driven model, the South Philly Food Co-op is well positioned to bring in the heritage and fabric of the many diverse communities living in our neighborhood. I envision the Co-op as a safe place for all people that provides educational resources such as cooking classes, recipes for seasonal foods, and other community programming. As I type this, many volunteers are hard at work raising the final funds we need to stock the shelves and hire staff.
With the Co-op starting its final phase of construction on my birthday (November 18) this year, I'm inviting you to help us celebrate this moment. Will you help the South Philly Food Co-op close its final fundraising gap and open our doors by the end of winter?
