This Month's Round Up is Women In Dialogue/Crossroad's Women's Center

Women in Dialogue (WinD) was founded in 1985 by women from different races, ethnicities, ages, nationalities, gender identities and dis/abilities. Their mission is “to bring communities together by bringing women together to address our common concerns.”

WinD is committed to getting all women’s work, waged and unwaged, including that of care giving, recognized and valued in policies and resource allocation. Tackling women’s & children’s poverty, health and food insecurity; and opposing discrimination of all kinds.WinD is based in the belief that community development begins with grassroots directly-impacted women speaking up and acting on their own behalf and collaborating with others.

They founded the community-based Crossroads Women’s Center in Germantown in 1998.

The Crossroads Women’s Center is a multiracial community-based center for collective self-help support and advocacy against poverty, sexism, racism, disability, and other discrimination, and for financial recognition for unpaid caregiving, overwhelmingly the work of women – women and children are 70% of poor people in Philadelphia.

The Center’s mission: “End Women’s Poverty!”

Women and men who work out of the Center know how tough it is to win recognition and resources for the work they do and to get what they need and are entitled to in order to tackle injustices in the benefits, legal, criminal, and child welfare systems especially for those that are Black, Brown, LGBTQ+ or have a disability.
